More than 1,000 motions had been tabled to the
ongoing First Session of the 10th National People's Congress
(NPC), China's top legislature, an official in charge said
in Beijing Tuesday. "According to incomplete figures,
by 6 p.m. Monday, the deadline for accepting legislators'
motions, the number of motions received had exceeded
1,000," said Li Bojun, deputy director of the office
under the motions division of the current session. "The
counting of the exact number is still under way." The
motions were set forth either by a delegation or through the
joint endorsement of more than 30 lawmakers, Li explained.
This is the third year in a row that more than 1,000 motions
are tabled to the annual full session of the NPC. Last
year's NPC session, or the Fifth Session of the 9th NPC,
received a total of 1,194 motions. This year's motions focus
mainly on major issues related to China's economic and
social development, as well as hot-topic issues of great
concerns to the general public, Li said. (Xinhua News Agency
