---Writing and Speech Competition

With the purpose of building up a new image of "New century, New Beijing " and enhancing the cultural communications between Beijing and world, "Beijing and Me "--Writing and Speech Competition starts sign-up on February 28th 2002. The competition is hosted by Information Office of Beijing Municipality, Foreign Affairs Office of Beijing Municipality and Beijing Television Station, cooperated by Beijing Daily, Beijing Evening News, Beijing Youth Daily, Beijing Morning Post, Beijing People's Broadcasting Station and undertaken by Beijing Gehua Cultural Development Group.
Following with Beijing's entering into the list of modern international metropolises, more and more foreigners come to Beijing for work, study and traveling. They surely have many experiences and stories about Beijing. It's really a good chance for them to share their experiences and joys with the friends throughout the world.
The competition divides into two stages. First stage called Writing Competition. The host will publish a book for these awarded writings. Some articles will be also released on major Beijing newspaper. The second stage is Speech Competition. 40 competitors will be invited to Beijing to join the Speech Competition in June. The Speech Competition will also be lived on Beijing Television Station.

Participant
1) Foreigners who are in Beijing now or someone who have been to Beijing before. (Excluding overseas Chinese)
2) Foreigners who have never been to Beijing but have some special feelings about Beijing. (Excluding overseas Chinese)

Requirement of the writing and speech
1) The writing should be written both in Chinese and your native language.
2) The writing of your native language should be printed.
3) The words limits is 2000 to 5000(Chinese characters)
4) The style of writing should be narration or prose.

2) Submission by post: Please send your writing and your personal information to

Note: Participant for speech competition should send a cassette
with 10-minute Chinese speaking to identify your level of spoken Chinese.

　 a. A copy of participant's passport.
　 b. Two personal photos:
　　 (1) 2-inch standard passport photo;
　　 (2) your daily activities photo in Beijing)
　 c. Personal resume
　　 (including your experience of studying Chinese and your hobby.)

1) The writing competition: First prize --3 winners;

2）According to the writing and the level of spoken Chinese of the participants, 40 competitors will be invited to Beijing to participate in the Speech Competition.

Expenses
The host will pay international flight and the accommodation fees in Beijing for competitors who come from outside Beijing during the competition period.
